What is a landing page, and when do you need one instead of a website?
A landing page is a single, focused page built for one action. Learn when it beats a full website, what to put on it and how it helps your ads perform.

Ask five web designers for a price and you may get five very different answers. That isn’t always a scam — it usually means they are quoting for different things. Here’s how to understand what you’re paying for.

“A website” can mean a single page built from a template in an afternoon, or a large custom site with dozens of pages, original photography, a booking system and ongoing marketing. Both are websites, but they are completely different projects. The price follows the work, the skill involved and the responsibility the designer takes on.

So instead of asking “how much is a website?”, it helps to ask “how much is this website?” — and that starts with knowing what affects the price.
A focused one-page site or landing page takes less time than a five-page site with separate service, about, gallery and contact pages. More pages mean more layout, more writing and more testing. Most small businesses can start with one to five pages and add more later.
Writing is often the hidden part of a website project. If you supply finished text, the job is mostly design and build. If the designer writes or rewrites your content, that’s extra skilled work — and usually worth it, because clear words sell more than clever layouts.
A template gives you a ready-made layout. A custom design is created around your brand, customers and content. Custom work costs more, but it helps you stand out rather than looking like thousands of other sites.
Contact forms, WhatsApp buttons and galleries are standard. Online shops, payment checkouts, customer logins, booking systems and multi-language setups add significant time and ongoing responsibility, so they add cost.
Your domain name and hosting are usually paid every year to the provider. Some designers include arranging them in the quote; others expect you to buy them yourself. Either way, ask who pays the renewals and when — this is where many surprises come from.
Some quotes include a short support period for fixes and small changes. Ongoing maintenance, updates and new pages are usually charged separately. Knowing this in advance avoids awkward conversations later.
A very low price can be fine for a simple need — but check what is missing. Common gaps are no written content, no mobile testing, no basic SEO, no clear ownership of files, and no support at all. On the other hand, a high price doesn’t guarantee results either. What you want is a price that clearly matches a written scope.
I don’t publish fixed prices because every business needs something slightly different. Instead, I build a free personalised demo first, then give you a tailored quote with a clear written scope. You pay 50% to start and the remaining 50% before launch, with at least five revision rounds and 15 days of support included. See website design for exactly what’s included.
Prices vary by country, designer and project. Use this guide to compare quotes fairly, not as a price list.

See the serviceThe design and build is usually a one-time cost, but hosting and your domain renew every year, and maintenance or new features are extra. Budget for both.
Yes. Starting with a focused one-to-five-page site and growing it is a sensible approach for most small businesses.
Because two “five-page websites” can involve very different amounts of work. A tailored quote after a free demo is fairer for both sides.
