How often should a small business post on social media?

There’s no magic number. The right posting schedule is the one you can keep up while still posting things worth seeing. Here’s how to find yours.

The honest answer

Consistency matters more than volume. Posting three good pieces every week for a year will usually do more for a small business than posting daily for a month and then disappearing. Platforms and audiences reward accounts that show up regularly with useful or interesting content.

At a glance: Consistency beats volume; Pick 1–2 main platforms; Plan a simple weekly rhythm; Batch-create content; Repurpose long content; Review monthly.
At a glance: the key points of this article.

Start by choosing your platforms

You don’t need to be everywhere. Pick one or two platforms where your customers actually spend time:

  • Instagram — visual businesses: food, beauty, design, fitness, events, products.
  • Facebook — local communities, groups and events; often an older audience.
  • LinkedIn — B2B services, consultants, coaches and professional services.
  • YouTube — tutorials, explanations and anything people search for.

A realistic starting rhythm

These are sensible starting points for a small business — not rules. Adjust them to your time and results.

PlatformStarting pointFormats
InstagramA few posts a week, plus Stories when you canReels, carousels, Stories
FacebookA few posts a weekPhotos, short videos, events

How to stay consistent without burning out

Use content pillars

Choose three or four themes you’ll rotate — for example: tips, behind the scenes, customer stories (with permission) and offers. Deciding what to post becomes much easier.

Batch your work

Set aside one block of time each week or month to create several posts at once, then schedule them.

Repurpose

One long video or podcast can supply clips, quotes and carousels for weeks. See the content repurposing guide.

Use scheduling tools

Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn and YouTube all let you schedule posts in advance, and third-party tools can manage several platforms together.

Quality checks before you post

  • Would your ideal customer find this useful, interesting or entertaining?
  • Is the first line or first second strong enough to stop the scroll?
  • Does it tell people what to do next — visit your website, message you, book?

Measure what matters

Once a month, look at which posts led to profile visits, website clicks, messages and enquiries — not just likes. Do more of what works.

Quick answers

Common follow-up questions.

Still unsure? Ask me anything or message me on WhatsApp.

Is posting every day necessary?

No. Daily posting can help some accounts, but only if quality stays high. A steady schedule you can maintain is better.

What’s the best time to post?

It depends on your audience. Check your platform’s insights to see when your followers are most active, then test.

Should I post the same thing on every platform?

You can share the same idea, but adapt the format, length and caption to each platform.
